Hi, my name is Ryan Herbert! I was born on the small island of Guernsey, which is part of the Channel Islands based in the UK. I moved to Hong Kong when I was 5 years old. I have lived in Asia for 21 years. My time has been split between HK, Malaysia and boarding school in Thailand. I love Asia! My time spent here has enabled me to immerse myself in many different cultures and traditions! I love being an international citizen!
After finishing school in HK, I went to the University of Oxford Brookes where I studied Sports Coaching & Physical Education. I am also a qualified swimming instructor. I have a passion for teaching and sport! The sports I love most are Football, Rugby and Golf. My dad is a Geordie, so I’m a Newcastle United fan for any of you football lovers! I also love to spend time traveling, camping and hiking. Last year, I completed the 100k Maclehose Trail with two friends and my dog. My bag & tent weighed 20KG! It was a tough challenge and so much fun, apart from the fact that a porcupine tried to get into my tent at night!! I love being a risk taker and experiencing all sorts of challenges. I will provide a caring, safe and nurturing environment so that the children under my care can become risk takers too.
In my classes you can expect a smile on my students’ faces. I believe in inclusiveness, enjoyment and respect and infuse these principles into my lessons. I expect my students to treat each other as they would like to be treated themselves. Trust and rapport between myself and my students is paramount. I am always available for my students in any capacity.
