Hi, my name is Lavita Bhagwandas Sherwani. I was born and raised in Mumbai, India where I obtained my Bachelor of Arts degree. I moved to Hong Kong in 1990 when I was employed by Cathay Pacific Airways as a flight attendant. After jet setting for 30 years as an inflight manager, where flying meant supervising a team of cabin crew, responding to everything from complaints to critically ill passengers and ensuring the safety aspects and the service was handled smoothly and seamlessly, I changed careers. This decision was partially due to Covid and the furloughs, and partly because of my passion to teach.
I have been with Po Leung Kuk since April 2022, prior to which I taught children online and at Learning Centers. Having raised two children, and being a part of their IB learning journeys, I was inspired and motivated to explore a teaching path for myself. I believe that I can carry forward my years of experience and wisdom gathered over the years (as a flight attendant, pilot for small airplanes and parent) and bring this learning and perspective into my current position as a Teaching Assistant and into my aspiring role as a Homeroom Teacher.
I genuinely love being around children and feel honored to be a part of many unique journeys. Today’s children are tomorrow’s leaders and citizens of the world. If I make a positive difference to even one student’s life, I will consider all my efforts fulfilled.
